Brake rotors, paired with brake pads, are an important wear item in your braking system, and should be routinely inspected. The design of the brake rotor varies between solid, vented, vented cross drilled, and vented slotted, depending on the weight and performance of your vehicle. Ventilated and cross drilled rotors can dissipate heat faster and are used more primarily on the front end of vehicles. Cross drilling also is used as weight reduction, brake squeal elimination and surface water dispersal. Disc rotors can be damaged by scarring, cracking, warping, or rusting, resulting in the need for replacement. If you feel a substantial steering wheel wobble or shake when applying the brakes, you will most likely need new brake rotors.
